Ballet is for Everyone is a non-profit, completely volunteer run, community that provides free ballet lessons for children.
Our classes are 100% free (but we appreciate koha, whatever you give is put back into running classes – though again, you are not obligated to provide koha), we are all ages, and all genders. We are accessible to children with high health needs, health challenges, disabilities or fragile immune systems. We are a completely safe place for children who are genderfluid or non-binary. We don’t have uniforms or rules or extra charges or tests or grades. We are just about fun for children. We have tutus for children if they want to wear them. We don’t force participation and we don’t separate children based on skill. We have an emphasis on fun and letting the children lead. We encourage everyone to join in – parents, grandparents, friends, whanau.
On request we can hold classes for groups of children in need – please contact us at [email protected] if you’d like your group to be considered.
Who can go to these classes?
The classes are open to all children who want to attend. They were set up for children whose parents cannot afford classes, children with health challenges, disabilities and/or high health needs, children who are genderfluid or non-binary and children who might struggle with a heavily structured, graded ballet class. Anyone can attend as long as they are up-to-date with vaccinations according to the Ministry of Health schedule and have had no tummy bugs or snotty noses on the day or the days prior. Just come on Sunday and join in!
Our classes are on Sunday
10.15am – Mostly under fours (but welcome to all ages)
11am – All ages
Like us on Facebook to hear about class changes. We will update here as well.
We aren’t strict about ages – it’s just a guideline. Please come to any class you like.
We are strict about keeping our children safe.
We’re sorry, you can’t attend if your child is unvaccinated. We have children attending who have fragile health. Under the order of their paediatricians and health teams we have made the decision not to allow children who are unvaccinated or children who have contagious illnesses – colds, flus, stomach bugs etc. This may seem exclusionary, but there are few spaces available to children with high health needs. We want to provide a safe place for them to enjoy something they would likely never get a chance to do otherwise. We appreciate your understanding and your compassion for them.
Please do not attend if your child is ill or unvaccinated.
The “sniffles” can make a child with high health needs really, really unwell. They could end up in intensive care. Please help us make sure the classes are safe for them by not attending if your child is unwell. Please let us know as soon as possible if your child develops measles-like symptoms after one of our classes.
Help your children wash their hands/use hand sanitiser before classes. Children must be immunised according to the Ministry of Health Guidelines.
Our classes are held at Feet with Heat’s Dixon Street studio. There is a lift, but we need to come down and let you up in it. So if you can please use the stairs and if you need the lift send us a FB message and we will figure out the most smooth way of making sure you get to class. There is street parking on Dixon St, and there is also a car park on Leeds Street, and the Leeds Street alley joins with Eva Street which is right by the studio on Dixon Street.
